Good morning, brothers and sisters in Christ. Today, I want to speak to you about something that encourages our faith and our walk with God: responding to His call without holding back. God calls each of us to a unique purpose and journey. It is our duty and privilege to respond wholeheartedly.

In the Bible, the concept of 'call' is frequently used and carries rich meaning in both Hebrew and Greek. In Hebrew, the word most commonly translated as 'call' is קָרָא (qārā'). This word can mean to call out, to name, to summon, to invite, or to proclaim. It is used in various contexts, such as calling on the name of the Lord (Genesis 4:26), God calling prophets (Isaiah 6:8), or naming someone or something (Genesis 2:19). The idea often conveys a personal summons or a divine invitation, especially when God calls someone into service or relationship. In Greek, the term most often used is καλέω (kaleō). This word also means to call, summon, invite, or name. It is frequently used in the New Testament in theological contexts. For example, God calls people to salvation (Romans 8:30), to holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:7), or to fellowship with His Son (1 Corinthians 1:9). Related Greek words include κλῆσις (klēsis - a calling) and κλητός (klētos - called or invited). Therefore, whether in Hebrew or Greek, to 'call' in biblical use often implies more than just speaking aloud—it usually involves a purposeful and personal summons from God for a relationship, mission, or identity.Let's turn to the story of Moses in Exodus. The burning bush was God's signal to Moses, yet Moses was initially hesitant. However, when he finally stepped forward, he liberated an entire nation. It's a powerful reminder of what can happen when we choose to act when God calls.Just as God called Moses, He calls us. Often, we hold back because of fear, doubt, or uncertainty, but let me encourage you today—God equips those He calls. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." How reassuring to know that God's plans for us are rooted in love and prosperity.

We can also learn from the story of Jonah. Initially, Jonah resisted God’s call to go to Nineveh and ran in the opposite direction, leading to a series of challenges. However, when Jonah finally obeyed God’s command, the people of Nineveh were saved. This serves as a reminder that even when we run from God's calling, His purpose remains, and our obedience can lead to transformation and salvation. (Jonah 1-4)

Let's also recall Abraham's story. When God called Abraham to leave his homeland and go to an unknown place, Abraham obeyed without hesitation. His unwavering faith not only rewarded him personally but also set the foundations for future generations. Abraham's example teaches us the significance of trusting God's promises, even when the path is not clear. Genesis 12

Consider the apostles, like Peter and Paul, who received God's call to spread the Gospel. Despite facing persecution and challenges, their obedience led to the growth of the early church and the transformation of many lives. Their dedication illustrates the impact of responding to God's call with faith and courage. Acts 9:1-19

Now, let's add the example of Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish ruling council, who missed understanding Jesus' call initially. Although he sought Jesus at night, indicating his hesitation and fear, Nicodemus later appeared to publicly support Jesus after His crucifixion, helping to prepare his body for burial. Nicodemus' journey shows us that understanding and responding to God's call can be a process, and it's never too late to act upon it.

One scripture reference that relates to Nicodemus' journey is John 3:1-21

The story of the rich young ruler can be found in Mark 10:17-27.

Just as we have learned today, if that gentle tugging on your hear, that call to salvation and relastionship with christ

1 Corinthians 1:9: "God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."

then come forward as we stand and sing.
